Remco van Bladel (1971) was educated as graphic designer at the Academie St. Joost, Breda, NL. For the last decade his Amsterdam based studio has worked mainly on cultural projects within the private as well as the public sector. The studio works in a broad spectrum of media including traditional print work and book design, new media and exhibition design. The clientèle includes corporate institutions and individual artists. Depending on the task at hand, be it a book, exhibition design, an identity, a website or app, the studio’s inner core is extended to build custom-made teams of specialists of designers, photographers, coders, architects, writers, printers, binders and publishers. Remco has a strong affinity with conceptual art in general and feels inspired by Dada and Fluxus in relation to publishing strategies.

Besides his extensive experience as a designer, Remco is familiar with the client perspective as co-founder of Onomatopee, a publishing house and exhibition-space in Eindhoven, NL. Remco has a strong affinity with critical art and has extensive knowledge of the (inter)national design- and art scene. He always strives to look for the best graphic design solutions in the best way possible, always keeping the interest of the client in mind.

His clear but often multi-layered designs are rooted in the content of the project. He is at his best when involved in the development of a project from the early stages onwards, working closely together with the curator and editors, each contributing from his or her respective expertise. This organic working process often leaves everyone with a sense of ownership that adds to both the commitment to and the quality of the projects.

Remco loves printed matter and is deeply interested in exploring new possibilities this medium brings. With a similar sense of eagerness he approaches work within the digital realm using his understanding of modern technology to come to clear and progressive design solutions. Next to his design work Remco teaches typography and graphic design at ArtEZ Arnhem. Studio Remco van Bladel has won several awards for its designs, including several Best Dutch Book Designs and a Dutch Design Awards nomination. Three of our projects are included in this years’ international competition during the Graphic Design Biennial in Brno, Czech Republic.
